本片改編自斯科特·菲茨杰拉德的同名小說(shuō)，故事的主人公是個(gè)叫做本杰明·巴頓的怪人。他違反了大自然的規(guī)律，竟以老人形象降生人世，之后越活越年輕，倒著成長(zhǎng)。1919年本杰明·巴頓（布拉德·皮特飾）降生在巴爾的摩，一出生他就已經(jīng)是一個(gè)70多歲的“老”嬰兒，他的父親胡亂的將他遺棄在街邊。幸運(yùn)的是，一位好心的黑人婦女收養(yǎng)了他，將她那經(jīng)由歲月沉淀下來(lái)的智慧統(tǒng)統(tǒng)教授于他。1930年，本杰明11歲（他現(xiàn)在看起來(lái)有60多歲），他遇到了6歲的黛西（凱特·布蘭切特飾），他們相愛了。
　　后來(lái)二戰(zhàn)爆發(fā)，本杰明坐船從美國(guó)來(lái)到英國(guó)，途中他遇見了各式各樣的人物，見識(shí)到了真正的悲劇，也體驗(yàn)到人性最偉大的光輝。戰(zhàn)爭(zhēng)結(jié)束后，他和黛西重逢在紐約，此時(shí)黛西已經(jīng)是一位成功的舞者了。1950年，他們終于看起來(lái)差不多大了，本杰明和黛西一起，度過(guò)了他們生命中最美好的時(shí)光。然而，當(dāng)本杰明越來(lái)越年輕時(shí)，他意識(shí)到，他不能再和黛西生活在一起了，黛西需要更正常的人生……
