本片原聲配樂由Jan A.P. Kaczmarek作曲。影片改編自發生在日本的真實故事，1987年曾被搬上銀幕，由仲代達矢主演、取名《忠犬八公物語》大獲成功。美版由《濃情巧克力》、《狗臉的歲月》導演萊塞·霍爾斯道姆執 導，故事講述理查·基爾飾演的大學教授收養了一只小秋田犬，取名“八公”（理查·基爾在電影中用日語發音呼喚“八公”），之后的每天，八公早上將教授送到 車站，傍晚等待教授一起回家。不幸的是，教授因病辭世，再也沒有回到車站，然而八公在之后的9年時間里依然每天按時在車站等待，直到最后死去.
